Caridina cantonensis var. 'Red Wine'
Also known as: Red Wine Shrimp, Taiwan Bee Red Wine
Origin: Selectively bred; base species from Southern China
The Taiwan Bee Red Wine Shrimp is a richly colored variant that bridges King Kong red genetics with Blue Bolt parentage, producing a deep, uniform wine-red coloration across the entire body. Unlike Crystal Red shrimp which display banding, the Red Wine expresses near-solid body coloration in a dark burgundy-red shade. These demanding Caridina require soft, acidic, ultra-low TDS water with an active buffering substrate. A mature, stable aquarium environment is critical — abrupt parameter changes can cause fatal molting failures. In an ideal setup with dense moss, biofilm, and premium feeding, Red Wine shrimp thrive and produce stunning offspring.
Water: pH 5.8–6.8, TDS 80–130 ppm, temperature 20–24°C; RO water with Caridina mineral additive and active substrate buffer. Tank: 30–60 litres; moss-heavy setup; sponge filtration; minimal flow. Feeding: High-quality shrimp pellets, biofilm, algae, leaf litter. Breeding: Stable parameters required; breed with King Kong or Blue Bolt for variety. Compatibility: Species-only; no Neocaridina or fish tankmates.
