Caridina cantonensis var. 'Shadow Panda'
Also known as: Shadow Panda Shrimp, Dark Panda Taiwan Bee
Origin: Selectively bred; base species from Southern China
The Shadow Panda is an advanced Taiwan Bee Caridina variant that expresses the panda pattern with significantly deeper, darker black pigmentation than standard Panda shrimp. The near-black body with crisp white markings creates an exceptionally dramatic high-contrast appearance. These shrimp are among the most striking Caridina available but are correspondingly demanding in their husbandry requirements. Strict soft, acidic, low-TDS water management with an active buffering substrate and RO base water is non-negotiable. A mature, heavily planted tank with abundant moss, Indian almond leaves, and a reliable sponge filter provides the ideal conditions for these collector specimens.
Water: pH 5.8–6.6, TDS 80–120 ppm, temperature 20–23°C; RO water with Caridina mineral additive and active substrate. Tank: 30–60 litres; heavily planted; mature biofilm; sponge filtration. Feeding: Premium shrimp pellets, biofilm, algae, Indian almond leaves. Breeding: Highly sensitive during brooding; never change >10% water at once. Compatibility: Species-only; ideal tankmates are other Shadow Panda or King Kong shrimp.
