Crossostoma lacustre
Also known as: Taiwan Hillstream Loach, Taiwan Sucker Loach
Origin: Taiwan
Crossostoma lacustre is native to the cool, fast-flowing montane rivers of Taiwan and is seldom available in the hobby outside of specialist collectors. Its pale tan body with subtle brown spotting and robust sucker structure make it a fascinating subject for hillstream biotope setups. The Taiwan Hillstream Loach requires cool temperatures and may benefit from a chiller in warmer climates.
Water: 18-24°C, pH 7.0-8.0, hard, cool and highly oxygenated. Tank: Minimum 80 L, large smooth boulders, chiller recommended, high flow. Feeding: Biofilm and algae primary; algae wafers, spirulina, blanched greens. Behaviour: Active on rock surfaces during the day; rests in shaded crevices. Compatibility: Peaceful; ideal with other cool-water hillstream species.
