Cyphotilapia frontosa
Also known as: Tanzanian Frontosa, Tanzania 6-Bar Frontosa
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
The Tanzanian 6-bar Cyphotilapia frontosa originates from the eastern Tanzanian shoreline and exhibits the same basic pattern as the Burundi strain but with subtle locality-specific colour differences in fin and head hue. Kept identically to all Frontosa morphs, this is a long-lived showpiece cichlid suited to experienced aquarists with a large aquarium.
Water: 24-26°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water; steady parameters are critical. Tank: 500L+ for a colony; minimal decor on the floor, large rock formations at the back. Feeding: Carnivore pellet, frozen krill and lance fish; avoid overfeeding — feed every 2 days. Behaviour: Colony hierarchy; mouthbrooding females should not be disturbed; males display frequently. Compatibility: Cyathopharynx furcifer, Paracyprichromis nigripinnis, Xenotilapia species.
