Carassius auratus
Origin: Captive bred
The Telescope Eye Calico Goldfish is one of the most visually complex fancy goldfish varieties, combining the dramatic dramatically protruding spherical eyes of the telescope eye mutation with a nacreous scale pattern that produces a stunning multicolor calico mosaic of red, black, blue, and white. The combination of unusual eye type and intricate coloration makes it a standout specimen in any goldfish display. Due to its impaired vision, it requires careful husbandry and thoughtful tank design.
Provide a smooth-bottomed aquarium with no sharp edges, protruding decorations, or objects the fish may injure its eyes on. Keep exclusively with other slow, similarly impaired fancy goldfish varieties — never with active single-tail varieties. Strong filtration is essential as goldfish are high-waste producers. Feed sinking or gel-based foods to reduce swim bladder issues. Regular partial water changes of 20–30% per week.
