Telmatochromis bifrenatus
Also known as: Bifrenatus Cichlid, Twin-Striped Telmatochromis
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Telmatochromis bifrenatus is closely related to T. vittatus and shares a similar striped patterning and rocky-shore habitat along the coast of Lake Tanganyika. It is slightly smaller and more tolerant of varying conditions, making it one of the most beginner-friendly Tanganyika lamprologines. Cave spawning pairs produce moderate numbers of fry and defend them attentively.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water; tolerates moderate fluctuations. Tank: 80L for a pair; assorted rocks for cave structures throughout the tank. Feeding: Quality flake and small pellet; occasional frozen bloodworm or Artemia. Behaviour: Cave spawner; active, curious pair; less aggressive than many Lamprologines. Compatibility: Cyprichromis leptosoma, Neolamprologus multifasciatus, Paracyprichromis nigripinnis.
