Telmatochromis vittatus
Also known as: Vittatus Cichlid, Striped Telmatochromis
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Telmatochromis vittatus is a sturdy, small lamprologine cichlid from the rocky shores of Lake Tanganyika. Its creamy body marked with two bold dark horizontal stripes makes it an attractive addition to a Tanganyika community tank. A cave spawner that bonds in pairs, it is one of the most forgiving Tanganyika species for water-quality fluctuations.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water. Tank: 80L for a pair; dense rock piles for cave sites and territorial boundaries. Feeding: Quality cichlid flake or small pellet; occasional frozen Artemia or Mysis. Behaviour: Pairs form bonded cave spawning units; defends territory moderately; good first Tanganyika cichlid. Compatibility: Cyprichromis, Neolamprologus multifasciatus, Julidochromis regani.
