Mystus tengara
Also known as: Tengara Catfish, Tengara Mystus
Origin: Asia (India, Bangladesh, Myanmar)
Mystus tengara is a small Asian catfish from rivers across India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. It belongs to the family Bagridae and displays typical bagrid characteristics: a streamlined body, long barbels, and an active, slightly boisterous temperament. Its warm brown colouration with darker striping and bold pectoral spines make it an attractive and lively aquarium inhabitant.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard (GH 2–15). Tank: 80 L minimum; caves and driftwood for daytime shelter; good filtration. Feeding: Sinking pellets, frozen bloodworm, shrimp, and small meaty foods. Behaviour: Active; somewhat opportunistic; can be nippy with very small or slow tankmates. Compatibility: Best with medium-sized, robust community fish; avoid nano fish.
