Limnopilos sp. Big Eye is one of the smallest freshwater crabs in the hobby, rarely exceeding 1.2 cm across the carapace, and immediately recognisable by its large, protruding eyes that dominate its tiny face. Originating from Thailand, it lives exclusively underwater among mosses and plant debris. It is completely harmless to plants and shrimp, making it one of the most compatible specialty crabs available for planted nano aquariums.
Water: 22–27°C, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 6–12, KH 2–6; stable, clean freshwater conditions. Tank: minimum 20 L, Java moss, fine substrate, leaf litter for hiding and foraging. Feeding: biofilm, micro-organisms, powdered foods, micro-pellets; very small food only. Behaviour: secretive; completely aquatic; spends time hidden in moss. Compatibility: safe with shrimp and small peaceful fish; do not house with predatory species.
