Flowerhorn hybrid (Cichlasomatinae)
Also known as: Thai Silk, Thai Silk Flowerhorn, White Flowerhorn
Origin: Captive bred (hybrid)
Thai Silk Flowerhorns originated from breeding programs in Thailand and are distinguished by their unusual colouration — a pale white to icy blue metallic body with a silky, almost mirror-like sheen across the scales. This is in stark contrast to the typical warm red-orange of most Flowerhorn strains and makes the Thai Silk immediately recognisable.
The pale body colour of the Thai Silk provides an excellent canvas for displaying pearl scaling, which appears particularly vivid against the light background. Black lateral markings may be present but are typically subdued, further emphasising the clean, bright appearance of the fish.
Thai Silk Flowerhorns share all the personality traits of other Flowerhorn varieties: high intelligence, strong owner recognition, and an interactive nature that makes them engaging pets. They require the same high-protein diet and excellent water conditions as other Flowerhorn strains.
Water: 26–30°C, pH 7.0–8.0; stable, well-oxygenated water maintains the bright body colour characteristic of this strain. Tank: Minimum 350L; bare bottom or fine white sand substrate complements the pale colouration. Feeding: High-quality Flowerhorn pellets; avoid excessive colour-enhancing foods that may mask the natural pale silver colouration. Breeding: Similar to standard Flowerhorns; males develop larger kok; pairs may coexist temporarily with careful management. Compatibility: Solitary; keep alone; the unusual colouration can trigger aggression from even unrelated cichlids.
