Thorichthys meeki
Origin: Mexico, Guatemala, Belize
Thorichthys meeki, the Firemouth Cichlid, is one of the most popular Central American cichlids — a bold, colourful fish with a brilliant red-orange throat and belly. Displays dramatic gill flaring behaviour as a threat display. Excellent for Central American biotope tanks.
Temperature 24–28°C, pH 6.5–8.0, GH 8–20. Hardy and adaptable. Pair forms during breeding — remove other fish when spawning. Feed quality cichlid pellets, occasional live/frozen foods. Can be kept in community with robust tank mates.
