Origin: South America
Acarichthys heckelii is a cichlid related to the eartheaters, native to the Amazon and Orinoco basins. Males develop strikingly elongated dorsal fin extensions and display intricate blue-spotted patterning across the body. Peaceful and community-oriented, it is an excellent choice for large South American biotope setups.
Water: 26-30°C, pH 5.5-7.0, soft water preferred. Tank: Minimum 220L, fine sand substrate, driftwood and Amazon sword plants for structure. Feeding: Quality sinking pellets, frozen bloodworm, cyclops, brine shrimp. Behaviour: Peaceful toward most tankmates; mild territorial disputes between males. Compatibility: Good with large tetras, other peaceful cichlids, and Corydoras.
