Chaetodon auriga
Origin: Indo-Pacific, Red Sea
The Threadfin Butterflyfish is one of the most commonly kept and widely distributed butterflyfishes, featuring a white and yellow body with a diagonal chevron scale pattern and a distinctive black eyespot on the dorsal fin. It is among the hardier and more adaptable butterflyfish species, accepting a wider range of prepared foods than most of its relatives, making it more forgiving for intermediate marine hobbyists. Best maintained in a FOWLR aquarium away from sessile invertebrates and corals.
Feed 2–3 times daily with frozen mysis, Artemia, krill, and quality marine pellets. Provide a spacious FOWLR aquarium with extensive rockwork for shelter. Not suitable for reef aquariums — will pick at coral polyps, soft corals, and worms. Peaceful toward other marine fish; avoid keeping with very aggressive species that may outcompete it for food. Acclimate carefully on introduction.
