Apogon compressus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
The Threadfin Cardinalfish is a graceful, deep-bodied species with a translucent pinkish body marked with fine dark lateral lines and large, expressive eyes adapted to low-light hunting. Most active at dusk and dawn, it spends daytime hours sheltering among coral branches or rockwork, emerging in the evening to hunt zooplankton. Best kept in groups of 5 or more in a well-aquascaped reef or FOWLR aquarium where the school provides a beautiful mid-water display.
Keep in groups of 5 or more to encourage natural schooling and reduce stress. Provide branching coral or rockwork structures for daytime shelter. Feed frozen mysis, Artemia, and copepods in the evening when cardinalfish are most active. Reef-safe and peaceful toward all coral and invertebrate species. Compatible with most non-aggressive marine fish.
