Dascyllus trimaculatus
Origin: Indo-Pacific, Red Sea to Hawaii
The Three-Spot Dascyllus is a bold and exceptionally hardy damselfish with a jet-black body adorned with three contrasting white spots — one on each flank and one on the forehead. Juveniles form tight, photogenic schools among branching corals and anemones; adults become progressively more territorial as they mature. One of the most tolerant marine fish of fluctuating water quality, making it an excellent beginner marine fish that helps cycle new tanks.
Hardy and forgiving — tolerates a wider range of water conditions than most marine fish. Feed a varied diet of quality marine flake, frozen mysis, and Artemia. Provide rockwork with caves and crevices for territorial defense. Adults will aggressively defend their territory, particularly against similarly shaped fish. Best introduced as the last fish in a community to reduce territorial conflict.
