Caridina mariae x Caridina cantonensis hybrid
Also known as: Tibee Shrimp, Tiger Bee Hybrid
Origin: Selectively bred hybrid; parent species from Southern China
The Tibee Shrimp is a first-generation hybrid between Tiger shrimp (Caridina mariae) and Taiwan Bee shrimp (Caridina cantonensis). The resulting offspring display a fascinating mosaic of patterning — tiger-like striping blended with elements of bee patterning, in colors spanning blue, black, and various combinations. Each Tibee is unique, making them a popular curiosity in the shrimp hobby. They occupy a middle ground in terms of care, benefiting from soft, acidic, low-TDS water. First-generation hybrids are typically more vigorous than either parent line, but their offspring in further generations can vary widely in appearance and parameter tolerance.
Water: pH 6.0–7.0, TDS 100–200 ppm, temperature 20–24°C; soft to moderately soft water; active substrate recommended. Tank: 30+ litres; planted with mosses and hiding spots; sponge filtration. Feeding: Biofilm, algae, shrimp pellets, blanched vegetables. Breeding: F1 offspring highly variable; subsequent generations can produce Taitibee patterns. Compatibility: Best in species-only or with other soft-water Caridina hybrids.
