Halichoeres timorensis
Origin: Eastern Indian Ocean, Timor Sea, Western Pacific
The Timor Wrasse is an uncommon species from the eastern Indian Ocean and western Pacific, named after Timor Island in Indonesia. Terminal males display a vibrant combination of green and pink body coloration with intricate, maze-like facial markings, while females present more subdued coloration. It inhabits shallow reef habitats with mixed sand and rubble substrates where it forages for small invertebrates and crustaceans.
Provide a sandy substrate of at least 5 cm depth for nighttime burial behavior. Cover powerhead and filter intakes with fine mesh guards. Feed multiple daily meals of frozen mysis, Artemia, and quality marine pellets. Reef-safe toward corals; may consume small ornamental shrimp and bristle worms. Provide a tight-fitting lid as wrasses are jumpers. Compatible with peaceful reef community species.
