Barbonymus schwanenfeldii
Origin: Mekong Basin, Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo
Barbonymus schwanenfeldii, the Tinfoil Barb, is a large and active cyprinid from Southeast Asia. Its bright silver body with vivid red fins and orange tail makes it a spectacular schooling fish. Grows large (up to 35 cm) and requires very spacious aquariums. A favourite for large community or biotope aquariums.
Requires at least 300 L as an adult. Keep in schools of 5+. Feed quality pellets, vegetables, and meaty frozen foods. Will eat smaller fish and any live plants. Best kept in a biotope with robust or plastic plants. Peaceful with similarly large fish. Very active — provide lots of open swimming space.
