Sarcophyton elegans
Origin: Indo-Pacific (aquacultured morph)
This golden color morph of Sarcophyton elegans displays a warm amber-to-gold cap covered in creamy white polyps that fluoresce beautifully under blue actinic lighting, making it a premium centerpiece soft coral distinct from the more common brown standard form. Care requirements are identical to the standard Toadstool — moderate light, moderate flow, and stable reef chemistry. Aquacultured and widely recommended for hobbyists seeking unique, responsibly sourced soft corals.
Position in moderate, indirect flow under medium to high lighting to display the full amber-gold coloration. Periodic polyp retraction for mucus-shedding is normal; increase flow slightly and wait — it will re-extend within 1–2 weeks. Use activated carbon filtration, particularly during retraction periods, to manage allelopathic chemical output. Space at least 20–30 cm from neighboring SPS corals.
