Cirrhilabrus tonozukai
Origin: Indonesia, Coral Triangle
Tono's Fairy Wrasse is a rare and visually spectacular species from Indonesia and the Coral Triangle, described only in recent decades. Terminal males display a breathtaking combination of red, orange, yellow, and blue that flares dramatically during courtship flash displays. Being a deepwater species typically collected from below 30 meters adds to its rarity, premium pricing, and the care challenges associated with decompression stress during collection.
House in a well-established reef with a tight-fitting lid and open mid-water swimming space. Keep ideally as a harem (one male with two or more females) to encourage regular display behavior. Feed frozen mysis, Artemia, copepods, and marine pellets multiple times daily. Avoid aggressive tank mates that may prevent natural behavior. Allow an extended acclimatization period given the decompression stress common in deepwater species.
