Carassius auratus
Origin: Captive bred
The Tosakin is one of the rarest and most distinctive Japanese fancy goldfish, bearing a spectacular undivided caudal fin that fans out in a full horizontal spread when viewed from above. This red-and-white variety showcases the clean contrast of traditional Kohaku-style coloring in this unique tail form. Originating from Tosa (now Kochi Prefecture), Japan, where they are considered a living cultural treasure and appear on the Kochi Prefecture emblem, these fish are prized by advanced goldfish collectors worldwide.
Maintain in a shallow tank or display tub (maximum 50–60 cm depth) to enable overhead viewing of the tail spread. Feed sinking or bottom-dispensed gel foods only — surface feeding causes swim bladder stress in this tail form. Strong biological filtration and weekly 25–30% water changes are essential. House exclusively with other slow-finned fancy varieties. Do not keep in deep aquariums where the tail becomes dysfunctional.
