Danionella translucida
Origin: Myanmar
Danionella translucida is a completely transparent nano fish from shallow, slow-moving streams in Myanmar, so transparent that its beating heart, developing eggs, and skeletal structure are clearly visible through the body wall. Closely related to zebrafish yet retaining a larval body plan into adulthood (a phenomenon called progenesis), it is one of the smallest vertebrates and a subject of active neuroscience research. Best kept in species groups in a carefully designed nano biotope.
Keep in species-only groups of 10 or more in a nano tank with very gentle sponge filtration — they are too small and delicate for standard filters. Plant densely with mosses and fine-leaved plants. Feed exclusively micro-foods: baby brine shrimp nauplii, micro-worms, vinegar eels, and nano flake. Water must be clean and well-oxygenated. Avoid any tank mates that might outcompete for food or cause stress.
