About

Triglachromis otostigma is an unusual benthic cichlid from the deep sandy zones of Lake Tanganyika, distinguished by a prominent dark spot resembling an ear marking behind the operculum. It leads a cryptic, bottom-dwelling lifestyle and is rarely seen in the hobby. A maternal mouthbrooder that requires pristine water quality and fine sand substrate.

Care Guide

Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water; very low nitrates. Tank: 200L+; fine soft sand at least 8cm deep; dim lighting preferred; minimal flow at the bottom. Feeding: Sinking pellet, frozen Mysis, bloodworm; may take time to adapt to prepared foods. Behaviour: Peaceful schooling species; spawning pairs temporarily separate from the group. Compatibility: Xenotilapia, Gnathochromis, Callochromis species; avoid boisterous tank-mates.
