Tropheus brichardi
Also known as: Brichardi Tropheus
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Tropheus brichardi hails from the southern regions of Lake Tanganyika and is distinguishable from other Tropheus by its contrasting yellow or orange blaze on a dark background. Like all Tropheus, it is a strict herbivore with a complex social hierarchy. Group housing is essential to prevent severe aggression directed at weaker individuals.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water. Tank: 250L minimum, extensive rock piles; sandy open areas for subdominant fish to retreat. Feeding: Spirulina-based staple; supplement with blanched vegetables; no high-protein foods. Behaviour: Maintain groups of 12+ to diffuse aggression; males establish territory and display constantly. Compatibility: Suitable with Petrochromis, large Neolamprologus, or as a single-species colony.
