Tropheus duboisi 'Maswa' is particularly prized because juveniles display vivid white polka dots on a jet-black body, transforming into a contrasting yellow/white vertical band as adults. This ontogenetic colour change fascinates fishkeepers. Care requirements are identical to T. moorii — strict herbivore diet, large colonies, and alkaline water. The transformation from juvenile to adult colouration takes approximately 6–8 months.
