Tropheus moorii
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa (Kasanga, Tanzania)
Tropheus moorii 'Kasanga' (Kaiser variety) is one of the most spectacular Tanganyikan cichlids, displaying a vivid red-orange body band on a dark background. An herbivorous, mouthbrooding cichlid from the rocky shorelines of Lake Tanganyika. A challenge to keep but immensely rewarding for the experienced aquarist. Sold as a male/female pair.
Keep in species-specific colony of 12+ in tanks of at least 200 L. Hard, alkaline water is essential. Feed exclusively plant-based foods: spirulina flake, algae wafer, blanched vegetables. NEVER feed meaty high-protein foods — causes fatal bloat. Very aggressive toward conspecifics; only keep in large colonies or pairs. Mouthbrooder — female holds fry in her mouth for ~28 days.
