Tropheus polli
Also known as: Polli Tropheus
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Tropheus polli is endemic to the central-western Congolese coastline of Lake Tanganyika and is characterised by a striking red-orange or yellow saddle patch behind the head. It shares the herbivorous diet and colonial social structure of all Tropheus, requiring high plant-matter feeding and large groups. Interbred morphs exist; always source from reputable locality-pure stock.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, very hard alkaline water. Tank: 250L+, large rockscapes; provide hiding spots for subdominant individuals. Feeding: Spirulina-based flake or pellet exclusively; avoid live or frozen invertebrates. Behaviour: Maintain 12+ individuals; males fight intensely; remove severely harassed fish. Compatibility: Other robust Tropheus colonies or large Neolamprologus; avoid small fish.
