Tropheus sp. "Bemba"
Also known as: Bemba Tropheus, Red Rainbow Tropheus
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
The Bemba morph of Tropheus sp. is collected from Bemba on the Zambian shoreline and is celebrated for its intense contrast between the deep red-orange dorsal blaze and the coal-black body. A pure Zambian strain, it commands premium value among Tanganyika collectors. As with all Tropheus, strict herbivory and colony management are non-negotiable.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, GH 12-20, KH 10-18. Tank: 300L+ for a colony of 12-15; heavy rockwork and caves throughout. Feeding: High-quality spirulina flake or vegetable-based cichlid pellet; no protein-heavy foods. Behaviour: Highly aggressive within the species; only combine with similar-sized, robust Tanganyikans. Compatibility: Best as single-species colony; may work with Petrochromis or large Neolamprologus.
