Champsochromis caeruleus

Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
Champsochromis caeruleus is one of the largest cichlids in Lake Malawi, reaching up to 35cm. Its elongated, streamlined body is adapted for fast open-water pursuit of other fish, earning it the 'Trout Cichlid' nickname. Males develop attractive blue-silver colouration. This species demands a very large aquarium and is suitable for expert keepers only.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 7.5-8.5, hard alkaline with powerful filtration. Tank: 500L absolute minimum; predominantly open water is essential. Feeding: Large frozen fish, silversides, krill, quality large pellets. Behaviour: Predatory; will pursue and consume any fish it can catch. Compatibility: Species-only or with very large robust cichlids such as other large haps.
