Turbinaria reniformis
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Turbinaria reniformis, the Yellow Cup or Pagoda Coral, forms broad, bowl-shaped or ruffled plates in vivid yellow to yellow-green colouration. It is unusual among SPS corals in tolerating lower light levels and moderate nutrient concentrations, making it an excellent bridge species between LPS and SPS reef keeping. The distinctive cup shape creates a dramatic sculptural element in reef compositions.
Medium PAR (100–250) — one of the few SPS corals that tolerates and even thrives at lower light levels than typical SPS species. Moderate flow. Alk 8–10 dKH, Ca 400–450 ppm, temp 24–27°C. Tolerates NO3 up to 10–15 ppm — suitable for reef systems not yet dialled in to ultra-low nutrients. Ensure adequate space below the cup for flow to prevent dead zones. An outstanding introductory SPS coral.
