Turbo fluctuosa
Origin: Eastern Pacific
Turbo snails (Turbo fluctuosa) are large, robust herbivores and among the most effective algae-grazers in the reef tank. A single snail can clear significant algae film from rock and glass overnight. A staple of any reef clean-up crew.
Reef-safe. Requires a well-established tank with some algae as food source. Supplement diet with dried seaweed (nori) if algae is depleted. Can knock over unsecured corals with their large shells — glue frags down. Cannot right themselves if flipped — assist them or they will die.
