Poecilia reticulata var.
Also known as: Tuxedo Blue Guppy, Blue Tuxedo Guppy
Origin: Captive bred (originally Trinidad)
The Tuxedo Blue Guppy showcases one of the most iconic patterns in the fancy guppy world — a clearly defined two-tone body where the front half glows in metallic blue and the rear half is dark, creating the appearance of a miniature tuxedo. The large tail echoes the blue front colouration.
This strain is robust and forgiving, tolerating a range of water conditions while delivering reliable show-quality colour. Males reach peak colour at around three months of age.
The tuxedo pattern is genetically dominant, so offspring from quality females reliably display the pattern, making this a rewarding strain for beginners interested in selective breeding.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 8–18; avoid very soft acidic water. Tank: 60 L minimum; planted with Java fern and Vallisneria; tight lid required. Feeding: Quality flake, micro-pellets, frozen Daphnia; feed 2–3 times daily in small portions. Breeding: Livebearer; 20–50 fry per brood every 4–6 weeks; floating plants protect fry. Compatibility: Peaceful; ideal for community tanks with tetras, corydoras, and rasboras.
