Parosphromenus tweediei
Also known as: Tweedie's Licorice Gourami
Origin: Malaysia
Parosphromenus tweediei is a miniature gourami named in honour of Maurice Walter Frederick Tweedie, a prominent naturalist associated with Malaysia. Like other members of the genus, it inhabits peat swamp forest streams and requires specialised soft, acidic water conditions. It is rarely seen in the hobby, making it a prized species among enthusiasts.
Water: temp 22–28°C, pH 3.5–6.0, very soft; RO or rainwater with peat and catappa. Tank: minimum 30L species tank; leaf litter, dark substrate, dense aquatic plants. Feeding: carnivore — live micro-foods critical; daphnia, artemia nauplii preferred. Behaviour: peaceful; males perform courtship displays using fin colouration. Compatibility: species-only setup strongly recommended.
