Signigobius biocellatus
Origin: Western Pacific
The Twin-spot Goby is a remarkable mimic goby featuring two large ocelli (eyespots) on its dorsal fins that it displays while rocking back and forth to impersonate a small venomous scorpionfish and deter predators. It inhabits sandy rubble zones, sifting substrate for small invertebrates, and does best in mated pairs in a well-established reef aquarium with a fine sand bed. Its extraordinary defensive display behavior is unlike any other goby and makes it one of the most captivating and unusual marine fish in the hobby.
Provide a deep sandy substrate of at least 7–10 cm for natural sifting behavior. Best kept as a mated pair. Feed frozen mysis, Artemia, and copepods placed near the substrate. Maintain stable, mature water quality — this species is more sensitive than typical damsels or clownfish. Avoid aggressive tank mates that may prevent feeding. Reef-safe toward corals.
