Apistogramma bilineata
Also known as: Two-lined Apisto, Bilineata Apistogramma
Origin: South America
Apistogramma bilineata is easily identified by its two parallel dark horizontal lines set against a yellow-olive body. Males develop elongated dorsal spines and caudal filaments during breeding condition. This species prefers soft, slightly acidic water but adapts reasonably well to clean, well-maintained aquariums.
Water: 24-29°C, pH 5.5-7.0, soft to moderately soft (GH 2-8). Tank: 60L minimum, sand substrate, caves, fine-leaved plants and driftwood. Feeding: omnivore — live/frozen Artemia, Cyclops, bloodworm; cichlid micro-pellets. Behaviour: mild territorial aggression during breeding; harem (1M:2-3F) recommended. Compatibility: peaceful community tank with small tetras, rasboras, and Corydoras.
