Ctenochaetus binotatus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Ctenochaetus binotatus is an industrious detritus and diatom grazer named for two dark spots at the base of its dorsal and anal fins. It uses its bristle-like teeth to stir up and consume fine algae films and detritus from rock surfaces, making it a natural cleaning crew member. Hardy and generally peaceful, it suits community reef systems where flow and open swimming space are provided.
Provide a 300 L minimum tank with strong circulation and ample live rock. Feed nori, spirulina, and algae-based flake daily. Acclimate to stable salinity 1.020–1.025 SG and temperature 23–27°C. Generally compatible with other tangs in large systems; quarantine before introduction.
