Uaru amphiacanthoides
Origin: Amazon basin
Uaru amphiacanthoides — the triangle cichlid — has a distinctive large black wedge-shaped marking on the mid-body and is a deep-bodied, laterally compressed Amazon species. It is primarily herbivorous and feeds on soft aquatic plants in the wild — supplementing with plant-based foods is essential. It is a peaceful community cichlid that mixes well with other large South American fish. Juveniles are brown with white spots, transforming into their bold triangle pattern as adults.
pH 5.5–7.5. 400+ L. Soft warm water. Groups of 6+. Feed: plant-based flake/pellet, spirulina, blanched vegetables. Will eat soft plants.
