Balistapus undulatus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Balistapus undulatus is regarded as one of the most belligerent triggerfish in the hobby, pairing a breathtaking pattern of orange wavy lines on dark green with an extremely territorial personality that will attack virtually any tankmate, including its keeper's hands at feeding time. Best suited to a very large species-only or fish-only system with only the most robust companion species. Despite its challenging temperament, it is a rewarding specimen fish for experienced marine keepers.
Requires a minimum 400 L tank with robust décor it cannot destroy. Feed a varied carnivore diet of meaty frozen foods and hard-shelled invertebrates to wear down ever-growing teeth. Maintain temperature 22–27°C, SG 1.020–1.025. Not reef safe. Introduce last to prevent established territorial aggression. Exercise caution when performing maintenance — bites are strong.
