Geosesarma sp. 'Tangerine'
Also known as: Tangerine Vampire Crab, Vampire Crab Tangerine
Origin: Indonesia (locality undisclosed)
The Vampire Crab Geosesarma sp. 'Tangerine' is a trade form named for its intensely saturated tangerine-orange carapace, which glows vividly under paludarium lighting and provides striking contrast against green moss and dark tropical substrate. Its precise origin locality has not been formally disclosed, but the form has established a stable presence in the European and Asian invertebrate hobby.
Like all Geosesarma, the 'Tangerine' form is semi-terrestrial and demands a paludarium setup that prioritises a generous, moist land area over the water section. Tropical soil kept consistently moist, a cover of living moss, cork bark shelters, and a layer of leaf litter provides the microhabitat conditions this species requires. Humidity should remain at 70–80%.
This is a direct developer: females carry a clutch of eggs under the abdominal flap for approximately four to six weeks before releasing fully formed miniature juveniles. Groups should be structured with more females than males to reduce male-to-male aggression. A tight, ventilated lid is non-negotiable.
Water: 23–28°C, pH 7.5–8.0, GH 6–15, KH 3–10; shallow water section; dechlorinated; no copper or chlorine. Tank: minimum 30 L paludarium; moist tropical soil, living moss, cork bark hides, leaf litter; secure ventilated lid. Feeding: omnivore — dried insects, fruit flies, blanched vegetables, sinking pellets; carotenoid-rich foods maintain colour. Breeding: direct developer; female broods 4–6 weeks; miniature juveniles fully independent upon emergence. Compatibility: 1 male to 2–3 females; no fish; do not mix with other Geosesarma unless large enclosure.
