Geosesarma sp. 'Blue'
Also known as: Blue Vampire Crab, Vampire Crab Blue
Origin: Indonesia (locality undisclosed)
The Vampire Crab sp. 'Blue' is an undescribed Geosesarma trade form distinguished by its dusty powder-blue to slate-blue carapace coloration, which contrasts beautifully with the characteristically vivid yellow eyes of the genus and dark banding on the legs. The blue pigmentation tends to deepen under subdued lighting and humid conditions that closely replicate the species' natural forest floor environment.
As with all Geosesarma, this form is semi-terrestrial and requires a paludarium with a generous, moist land section. Fully aquatic setups are inappropriate and will result in the crab's death. The water section should be shallow — no more than 3–5 cm deep — clean, and dechlorinated, with easy access points for the crab to enter and exit freely.
The 'Blue' form is peaceful and can be kept in small groups. It is a direct developer, and captive breeding is achievable in stable, well-maintained enclosures. A diet of dried insects, fruit flies, blanched vegetables, and sinking pellets covers all nutritional requirements. Occasional calcium supplementation via cuttlebone or calcium-rich foods supports healthy molting.
Water: 23–28°C, pH 7.5–8.0, GH 6–15, KH 3–10; shallow water section; dechlorinated, no copper. Tank: minimum 30 L paludarium; moist tropical substrate, living moss, cork bark, leaf litter; secure ventilated lid. Feeding: omnivore — dried insects, fruit flies, blanched greens, sinking pellets, cuttlebone for calcium. Breeding: direct developer; female carries eggs 4–6 weeks; juveniles emerge as miniature adults. Compatibility: 1 male to 2–3 females; do not mix with fish or other crab species; males compete aggressively.
