Rasbora vaterifloris
Origin: Sri Lanka
Rasbora vaterifloris, known as the Pearly Rasbora, is a stunning small rasbora endemic to fast-flowing hill streams of Sri Lanka shaded by rainforest canopy. Males in breeding condition develop beautiful orange-red colouration with iridescent scale highlights, making them among the most colourful rasboras in the hobby. This oxygen-loving species demands clean, well-oxygenated water and is best appreciated in a dedicated Sri Lankan biotope or similarly pristine community tank.
Keep in groups of at least 6 in a 40 L or larger aquarium with good surface agitation for oxygenation. Provide a dark substrate, driftwood, and leaf litter for a Sri Lankan stream biotope. Feed micro pellets, daphnia, and frozen cyclops to trigger best colouration. Maintain temperature 22–26°C, pH 5.5–7.5, soft to medium water. Sensitive to poor water quality — regular water changes are essential.
