Also known as: VC-10 Hap, Thick-lips Hap, Big Lips Hap
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
The VC-10 Hap is one of Lake Malawi's most distinctive species, with hypertrophied lips that form a large suction disc for extracting small invertebrates from rock crevices. Males display a pale blue-silver colouration. It is a peaceful hap best kept in a spacious aquarium with other mid-sized peacocks and haps.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.5-9.0, hard alkaline water; pristine conditions essential. Tank: Minimum 300L; rocky structure combined with open sandy zones. Feeding: Carnivorous diet of sinking pellets, frozen mysis, and brine shrimp; benefits from live rock for natural browsing. Behaviour: Peaceful and generally non-aggressive; males compete mildly during spawning. Compatibility: Peacock and hap communities; avoid mbuna and aggressive species.
