Carassius auratus
Also known as: Veiltail Goldfish, Philadelphia Veiltail, Fancy Goldfish
Origin: USA/China
The Veiltail is one of the oldest fancy goldfish varieties developed in the United States, famous for its remarkably long, flowing double tail with a squared-off trailing edge. Its fins are so delicate that they require a tank free from sharp objects and nippy fish. The Veiltail swims slowly and gracefully, making it a living work of art.
Water: 10–22°C, pH 6.5–7.5, well-oxygenated with gentle to moderate filtration. Tank: minimum 150 L, tall enough for the flowing tail; remove all sharp decorations. Feeding: sinking pellets twice daily, blanched vegetables, and occasional frozen foods. Behaviour: slow, elegant swimmer; very peaceful and easy to handle. Compatibility: other slow-moving fancy goldfish; absolutely no fin-nippers.
