Nassarius vibex
Origin: Caribbean Sea, Atlantic
Nassarius vibex is a small, highly active scavenger snail from Caribbean and Atlantic waters that spends its time buried in the sand bed, emerging explosively when it detects the scent of food or decaying matter. It is an effective cleaner of uneaten food, leftover fish waste, and detritus, and its burrowing behaviour naturally aerates and turns the sand bed to prevent anaerobic dead zones. Multiple specimens work in unison for best results in stocked systems.
Provide a sand bed of at least 3–5 cm for burrowing. Feed 2–5 individuals per 100 L of tank volume in moderately stocked systems. Do not use copper-based medications. Maintain temperature 22–27°C, SG 1.020–1.025. They are reef safe and harmless to corals, fish, and other invertebrates. Will reproduce in captivity given sufficient food.
