Clithon corona
Also known as: Volcano Nerite Snail, Crown Nerite Snail, Horned Nerite
Origin: Southeast Asia
Clithon corona, the Volcano or Crown Nerite, is immediately recognisable by its dramatically textured shell bearing irregular spiky protrusions or horns that give it a truly alien appearance. Shell form and horn development vary between individuals and with water hardness. It grazes algae with the same efficiency as other nerite species, and its extraordinary shell texture makes it one of the most visually distinct snails available for freshwater aquariums.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 8–18, KH 4–10; hard water supports horn and shell development. Tank: minimum 20 L, varied surfaces for grazing; secure lid — active climber. Feeding: diatoms, algae, biofilm; supplement with algae wafers if needed. Behaviour: active grazer; more sedentary than racing nerites but thorough. Compatibility: peaceful; safe with shrimp, fish, and other invertebrates.
