Origin: Venezuela (Rio Orinoco)
Ancistrus sp. 'Rio Orinoco' is a robust loricariid characterised by numerous raised, wart-like odontodes covering its body, giving it a uniquely rough appearance. It is a hardy algae grazer well adapted to Venezuelan river conditions and makes a durable choice for Orinoco biotope aquariums or general community tanks.
Water: 25–30°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderate; good filtration and moderate flow. Tank: Rocky substrate with caves and driftwood; minimum 100L. Feeding: Herbivore; algae wafers, blanched vegetables, driftwood, spirulina tabs. Behaviour: Nocturnal; peaceful; males guard egg clutches in caves. Compatibility: Compatible with most peaceful community fish and Orinoco biotope species.
