Nothobranchius wattersi
Also known as: Watters' Nothobranch, Watters' Killifish
Origin: Cameroon
Nothobranchius wattersi is a critically endangered annual killifish from seasonal pools in Cameroon, now maintained almost entirely by dedicated killifish societies. Males display vivid red and blue banding across the body and fins, making them among the most beautiful of the genus. Given its conservation status, acquiring fish from reputable breeders and contributing to captive propagation is especially meaningful.
Water: 22–26 °C, pH 6.0–7.0, soft acidic water. Tank: 30 L species tank with peat substrate; extremely secure lid required. Feeding: Exclusively live and frozen invertebrates; Daphnia, Artemia, blood worm. Behaviour: Males highly aggressive to each other; one male only. Compatibility: Species tank only; conservation status demands dedicated breeding effort.
