Misgurnus anguillicaudatus
Also known as: Weather Loach, Dojo Loach, Japanese Weatherfish
Origin: East Asia
Misgurnus anguillicaudatus is one of the most interactive loaches in the hobby, often approaching the glass and responding to its owner's presence. Its common name comes from an observed tendency to increase activity before weather changes, believed to be related to shifts in barometric pressure. Hardy and adaptable, it tolerates a very wide range of temperatures and water conditions.
Water: 10-24°C, pH 6.5-8.0, soft to hard; extremely adaptable. Tank: Minimum 120 L, deep fine sand for burrowing, secure lid essential. Feeding: Sinking pellets, earthworms, frozen bloodworm, vegetable matter. Behaviour: Highly active before weather changes; burrows and surfaces frequently. Compatibility: Very peaceful; good with coldwater community fish and goldfish.
