Misgurnus anguillicaudatus
Origin: East Asia (China, Japan, Korea)
Misgurnus anguillicaudatus, the Weather Loach, earns its name from its sensitivity to barometric pressure — it becomes noticeably more active before storms. A robust, endearing fish with a long body and multiple barbels around its downturned mouth. Native to East Asian river systems, it tolerates a wide range of temperatures and is famously hardy. Best on a soft sand substrate where it loves to burrow. Peaceful with all tank mates. An excellent choice for unheated temperate setups.
Unheated or temperate tank (10–25 °C). Fine sand substrate for burrowing. Secure lid — good jumper. Sinking pellets, frozen bloodworm, and vegetable matter. Tolerates hard water but prefers soft to medium. Amiable with goldfish and other cold-water fish.
