Chromis weberi
Origin: Indo-Pacific, Red Sea to Tuamoto Islands
Chromis weberi is a larger chromis from across the Indo-Pacific and Red Sea, bearing a greyish-brown body with an attractive iridescent blue sheen along the dorsal surface that glints under aquarium lighting. It forms smaller, tighter groups than the Green Chromis and adapts readily to aquarium conditions, making it an interesting and somewhat less common alternative for hobbyists seeking diversity in their reef community. Hardy and peaceful with most reef inhabitants.
Keep in groups of at least 5 in a 150 L or larger reef system. Provide ample open-water swimming space above rockwork. Feed a varied diet of small pellets, frozen mysis, and enriched brine shrimp twice daily. Maintain temperature 23–28°C, SG 1.020–1.025. Compatible with most peaceful reef fish. Larger size than typical chromis means it needs a correspondingly larger tank to school comfortably.
